Edwin E. Chavez has been incarcerated for 32 years, since he was a teenager. Beyond journalism, he is deeply involved in restorative justice and rehabilitation efforts. Chavez facilitates several programs including No More Tears, an alternative to violence initiative, and Awareness into Domestic Violence (AIDA), which addresses the cycle of violence. Tapping into his award-winning experience as the Spanish Guild Chair at San Quentin News, Chavez is a co-writer for Aliens in America, a docu-series about the bias and injustice of immigration gridlocks. He is also on the leadership team of Reflections: Going Back to the Start, a writing workshop that creates narratives based on Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACES). As a bilingual facilitator, his stated purpose is to bring healing and compassion to all those who have not yet explored their childhood traumas.
