CALVIN DUNCAN is an author, a lawyer, and founder of the Light of Justice program at Loyola University of New Orleans, which helps incarcerated people overcome barriers to bringing the merits of their legal cases before the court. Duncan was wrongfully convicted of murder when he was 19 years old and sentenced to life without the possibility of parole. During his 28 years in Louisiana prisons, Duncan taught himself the law to advocate for his own freedom and helped hundreds of other incarcerated people fight their cases. Duncan now holds a JD from Lewis and Clark Law School and is the co-author of the book The Jailhouse Lawyer. SOPHIE CULL is an author, a criminal justice reform advocate, and co-founder of the Visiting Room Project, which created a collection of interviews with both men and women serving life without parole in the Louisiana prison system. Cull has written about the death penalty, life sentences, and prosecutorial misconduct, and she started her career assisting incarcerated people fight their legal cases from Louisiana’s death row. Cull is the co-author of the book The Jailhouse Lawyer.
