California Prison Focus

California Prison Focus is a human rights organization whose mission is to shut down the solitary confinement units in California prisons and to end long term isolation, medical neglect, and all forms of discrimination.

We advocate for the needs and demands of prisoners in the isolation units (SHUs) and publicize abuses and prison conditions.  Our work includes public education, demonstrations, campaigns to persuade government officials,  and litigation. We publish a newspaper of prison-related news and opinion, Prison Focus, several times a year.”

There are many volunteer opportunities available, from working in the office to outreach. Email contact@prisons.org, include “Volunteer” in your  subject line.

Help Expose the Hidden World of Solitary Confinement

Accurate information and authentic storytelling can serve as powerful antidotes to ignorance and injustice. We have helped generate public awareness, mainstream media attention, and informed policymaking on what was once an invisible domestic human rights crisis.

Only with your support can we continue this groundbreaking work, shining light into the darkest corners of the U.S. criminal punishment system.
